Ham Radio Project
We are conducting an Amateur Radio Course for the blind people in Sri Lanka.
The founder of this project is late Mr.John Amaratunga (4S7JA). He started this to commemarate the year of desable around 1981 at the School for the Blind Ratmalana (13km South of Colombo)with the assistance of another Radio Ham 4S7KG-"Kule" and later 4S7VJ - "Wije" joined. Now they are continuing the course at the Head Office of this organisation (No.45/89, Nawala Road, Narahenpita, Colombo-5).
As a result of this scheme there are eight licenced radio amateurs in Sri Lanka, 4S7OV- "Ovi" , 4S5BJ-"Bon", 4S5NA-"Neel" , 4S7AA-"Asgar" , 4S6KV-"Vasantha", 4S7AG-"Gunasena", 4S7SG-"Gamage" and 4S7WM-"Wimal".

Retired English teacher 75 years old. First blind ham in Sri Lanka Primary & secondary educatuion:- Seevali Vidyalaya, Ratnapura. (1938- 1947). While he was serving as an English teacher in "Sinhalagoda Buddhist mixed school" in 1951, he lost his vision gradually . Then he joined the "School For The Blind " at Balangoda and retired in 1983. He was interested in electronics since childhood and started to learn Ham radio in 1989 and got the licence in 1992.
He is a member of Courage HANDI-HAM System in USA and he is the only member in Sri Lanka.

Retired teacher 71 years old and he was the Vice-Principal of the School for the Blind – Ratmalana(1964-89). When he was 26 years old (1953) he loss the eye-sight gradually and now he is totally blind.

He is totally blind and he got his licence in 1994. Studied at St.Peter's College Colombo-4. He was interested in science and communication from lower school and persued science for higher studies. Started loosing eye-sight in 1989 and by end of 1990 it was totaly lost. Got interested in amateur radio as SWL and with the help of 4S7KG "Kule"and 4S7VJ "Wije" was able to study and get the licence very quickly.

28 years old. He was a student at the University of Kelaniya (1996/2000) and completed his General Degree (BA). He studied at the School for the Blind – Ratmalana. He got his license in 1996.
